Electric Vehicle Drill Lance [EVDL]

TEAMEX EV‑DRILL LANCE (EVDL)

Rapid, Direct Cooling for EV Battery Fire

The EV‑Drill Lance (EVDL) is an award‑winning, water‑powered tool engineered for the safe, fast, and efficient cooling of lithium‑ion EV battery fires. It penetrates the battery case in seconds and delivers water directly to the cells, interrupting thermal runaway at its source.

THE CHALLENGE OF EV BATTERY FIRES

Electric vehicle fires behave differently from traditional vehicle fires. High‑voltage battery packs contain thousands of cells that can enter thermal runaway, creating:

• Long‑duration incidents

• Re‑ignition risk hours after knockdown

• Difficult access to the heat source inside sealed battery packs

• Operational disruption in garages, charging stations, and roadways

Exterior water application cools the outside of the vehicle while the battery continues heating internally. Firefighters need a way to reach the cells directly.

THE TEAMEX EV‑DRILL LANCE

SOLUTION

The TEAMEX EV‑Drill Lance (EVDL) is a purpose‑built tool that penetrates the battery case and delivers water directly inside the pack.

Core Characteristics

• Direct cooling at the cell level

• Remote operation reduces firefighter exposure

• Water‑powered drive — no external power source

• Fast penetration into the battery case

• Lightweight — approximately 27.5 pounds

• Reduced water usage due to targeted internal cooling

Performance Highlights

• Demonstrated suppression time reduced from 160 minutes to approximately 25 minutes in real‑world tests

• Targeted cooling interrupts thermal runaway

• Designed for universal application across multiple EV makes and models

How the EV‑DRILL LANCE works

  1. Firefighters perform EV incident size‑up and secure the scene
  2. The EVDL is positioned at a designated entry point
  3. Water flow powers the lance to penetrate the battery case
  4. Water is delivered directly inside the pack for internal cooling
  5. Crews monitor temperatures per EV response guidelines

The EVDL integrates into existing EV response procedures and provides a new tactical option for direct temperature control.

HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

The EV‑Drill Lance was developed by TANKTECH Co., Ltd. to address the unique challenges of EV battery fires. Traditional methods — exterior water application or suffocating covers — were time‑consuming and risky.

TANKTECH’s innovation directly penetrates the battery case and cools the cells internally. The device was publicly demonstrated after rigorous testing with actual EV batteries at the 2023 Fire Prevention Technology Industry Exhibition, marking a major advancement in EV fire safety.
